Brazilian Orchids on the Jau River
Order Phalaenopsis Orchids for delivery to any city in Brazil - phone (11) 5507-4746 or mail vivian@floresnaweb.com - order from Flowers Brazil at Floresnaweb
The Amazon rainforest has a huge live collection of flora species. Botanical experts say that in 2.5 acres of the forest you can find 700 different species of trees and twice that number of plants. One of the most awesome things you will notice is that the forest has a high density of trees and they are very tall. Many trees reach 130 meters high (some species reach 200 feet), and under they form a shadowed place where at times is hard to see the sun. The high canopy of the Amazon rainforest is a very unknown place even for most botanists and until recently very few researches have even explored this hard to reach area of the forest. The high canopy is also the home of thousands of still undiscovered species of insects and birds.
Although it may be hard to believe, the soil of the Amazon rainforest is very poor in nutrients. If you show a report listing the nutrients of that soil to a botanist he or she will probably say that nothing but a cactus will grow in that. This is an astonishing fact since there are huge trees and lush vegetation all over the place. The Amazon rainforest soil holds only 20% of the nutrients in the forest; the other 80% are in the trees and plants themselves. The explanation is rather simple; the Amazon Region has a dry and a wet season. In the wet season the water level of the Amazon River rises dramatically, and in some places it reaches 15 meters higher than dry season. This means that in the rainy season a huge portion of the forest gets flooded. This works like a great mechanism for exchanging and transporting nutrients and is crucial for the whole forest. The Amazon rainforest soil works like a sponge and even being not very nutrient rich, it can hold enough nutrients to help maintain the trees until the next rainy season.
The orchids are very well known by their beautiful flowers and can be found in the Amazon rainforest as well. They have strong smells that attracts insects that pollinate them. One of the peculiarities of the orchids is the fact that some are pollinated by moths and thus their smell is stronger at night. Send Flowers to Brasilia

How to care for your Phalaenopsis orchid
Growing a Phalaenopsis Orchid in your house can be rewarding and fun. It is particularly well suited for the conditions you already find at home. Phalaenopsis flowers range is size from 2" to nearly 5" in diameter.
Color ranges includes white, pinks, lavender and yellow in both solid colors and mixes of stripes and spots. Many new bold color patterns are beginning to show up also. Phalaenopsis flowers are exotic and last for a long time. Individual blooms can last as long as 3 months. Flowers open sequentially at 2-5 day intervals.
In the home, Phalaenopsis orchids enjoy a spot near or in a bright window. You’ll want to avoid direct midday sun but early morning or late afternoon sun is great. An east or west facing window is ideal. In darker or cloudy environments a shaded southern window might be best.
You can supplement normal light with fluorescent lights placed approximately 1 foot above your orchid. Water your orchid once every three days on average.

A poem by Nancy Corinne Woodard
I am a Tree
I am a tree,
gnarled, twisted, bent;
Growth straight and tall
was my intent
But wind-whipped gales from a
storm-tossed sea
Battered my branches relentlessly.
No beauty of stature or form I claim.
Homely, rugged, bleak and plain,
But, deep within the heart of me
Is strength born of adversity.
Whipped by gales of deep despair,
Of trouble, sorrow, worry, care,
We carry scars that do not show
And cover wounds only we may know
But look within and you will see
Strength, born of adversity.

How to look after your cut flowers
How to Look After your Cut Flowers
Tips good for all flowers
Fill a vase 3/4 full with water. Take each flower and remove leaves which would be submerged below the water level, then put them in the vase.
Change the water often.
Snip off any dead, diseased or dying flowers, or remove the flower completely from the vase.
Flowers Sao Paulo Florist
Flowers with soft stems
Flowers with soft stems (daffodils, tulips, lilies, freesias, etc) like having a little stem cut off after the water change. You will notice after they've been standing in water that the bottom of the stem curls. Snip this off with sharp scissors and replace in the fresh water.
Beware of the pollen on lilies, it stains skin and clothing.
Salvador Flowers Bahia Florist
Flowers with hard stems
Roses - Use a blunt instrument to bach the cut end of the stem and add an aspirin to the water. If rosebuds start to droop before they open, remove the stems and plunge them into boiling water for a few seconds. Arrange with gypsophilia and greenery (like fern) for a beautiful arrangement.
